The Okuma Rockaway Surf Rods target saltwater surf anglers casting from beaches, jetties, and piers for striped bass, bluefish, flounder, redfish, pompano, and other coastal species. The series is sold as a budget-friendly surf option with functional performance, under $100 at most retailers, appealing to casual and developing surf anglers who want a capable rod without significant investment. Blanks are 24-ton carbon with Okuma's UFR-II (Ultimate Flex Reinforcement) tip technology applied to the rod tip section.
Guides use XQ-series angled Sea Guide stainless steel frames with zirconium inserts, compatible with both monofilament and braid. The 50/50 two-piece blank construction divides at the midpoint, standard for surf rod transport. Actions are MF (mod-fast) across most models, with two M-action (moderate) entries in the MH-power slots. Eleven models span 8'0" to 12'0" in M, MH, and ML power. The 8' and 9' models cover the shorter range for jetty work, pier fishing, or close-range beach casting.
The 10' tier provides three power options (ML, M, MH) for mid-range surf. The 11' and 12' models are for distance surf casting where reach and loft are required. The two MH moderate-action models (1002MH and 1202MH) handle the heaviest sinker weights and thickest lines, suited for high-surf conditions.

Shortest model in the series. At 8', this functions less as a distance surf rod and more as a heavy-duty pier or jetty rod. The 10-17lb line rating and 1.5oz lure ceiling cover most inshore surf scenarios without requiring full surf casting technique.
One of two M-action (moderate) models, designed for maximum load transfer in heavy-sinker surf fishing. The 4oz ceiling and 25lb line handle large pyramid sinkers in strong current. M-action absorbs the load of a long-distance cast with heavier tackle.
The lightest-power long-rod option at 11' ML. Suited for lighter surf presentations, pompano fishing with small rigs, light sinker work, or baitfishing with thinner line in calmer surf conditions.
Longest model and the heaviest-duty distance caster. 12' with MH moderate action is specialized for maximum cast distance with 2-4oz sinkers in open surf, made for anglers made for fish beyond typical wade-fishing range.
