Rockaway Surf Sp Rods

West Coast surf specialist series from Okuma, with the 'SP' designation standing for Surf Perch, the primary design driver for the shorter, lighter models. The target angler is a California or Pacific Coast surf angler made for barred surfperch, corbina, and similar surf-zone species with Carolina rigs, sand crabs, and small grub baits. The longer models (10', 11') extend the range into general surf casting for striped bass, halibut, and drum on the East Coast as well, though the series is explicitly West Coast in origin.

Blanks are 24/30-ton carbon fiber, 2-piece with 50/50 tip-over-butt ferrule for a solid feel. SeaGuide XQ 316-stainless steel deep-press guide frames resist sand and salt abuse; zirconium inserts handle mono and braid. Minimalized EVA split-grip reduces weight for all-day walking-the-beach use. SeaGuide stainless hook keeper. The rod weight on the shortest models (ML, M at 8'6") is approximately 4–4.4 oz, light for a surf rod. MF action throughout the series suits both live-bait touch and lure casting without being too fast for fighting fish in surf conditions.

Five spinning models only, no casting. Lengths from 8'6" to 11'. Power runs ML, M, and M+. The two 8'6" models (ML and M) are the true surf perch builds. The 9' M extends casting range for mid-range surf. The 10' and 11' M+ models are the distance-casting options for open beach fishing with heavier terminal rigs up to 3 oz.
