The Solaris Surf SSX is a mid-tier surf spinning series from Okuma intended for beach and pier fishing along US coastlines, stripers, red drum, pompano, black drum, and general surf species. The SSX designation marks this as an upgrade over the base Solaris Surf line, with improved guide hardware and blank construction. Applicable technique range covers surf bottom rigs, pyramid sinker setups, and moderate-weight plugging. Blanks are 24-ton, low-resin carbon with a 70/30 split construction, 70% of the rod forms the working tip section with a tip-over-butt ferrule connection improving balance and feel.

SeaGuide XQH angled 316 stainless frames with aluminum oxide inserts handle both braid and mono. Fuji DPS pipe reel seat. Cork-wrapped fore and rear grips (non-slip). Two-piece blanks for transport. Backed by a 1-year limited warranty. Six spinning models from 9' to 12', all MF action, covering M through H power. The 9' M (10–20 lb, 1–4 oz) and 9'6" MH (12–25 lb, 2–6 oz) address closer-range fishing or shorter piers. The 10'6" pair (M and MH) cover the most common US surf fishing distance scenarios.

The 11' MH (15–40 lb, 3–8 oz) and 12' H (20–60 lb, 6–16 oz) are specialized for long-range casting with heavy sinkers or large plugs, standard equipment for drum and striper fishermen working wide, open surf.

Shortest, lightest model. Handles pier, jetty, or close-in surf work where casting distance is secondary. The 1–4 oz range covers pompano rigs, small plugs, and light bottom rigs without the fatigue of swinging a longer blank all day.

SSX-S-1202H Spinning · 12' 0" · H · MF action

Top of the range. 6–16 oz lure weight and 20–60 lb line make this a dedicated long-range heaving rod for large drum, stripers at distance, or heavily weighted pompano rigs from open beach. Overkill for most pier fishing situations.
