X Series Salmon Trolling Rods

The Okuma X-Series (marketed as X-Troll) is a specialized Great Lakes and Pacific Northwest salmon and steelhead trolling rod series, made for anglers who fish from boats with downriggers, planer boards, and divers. The series covers the demanding load profiles of heavy flasher-and-bait rigs, large spoons, and cut-plug herring at varying depths. Blanks are 24-ton moderate-taper carbon with UXR (Ultimate X Reinforced) multi-directional fiber technology for strength under sustained lateral load.

All five models are 2-piece for transport convenience, common among Pacific Northwest salmon guides who run multiple rods simultaneously. Hardware includes SeaGuide Alien double-locking reel seats for positive reel retention under trolling vibration, and deep-press guide frames with RS zirconia inserts rated for braid mainline common in Great Lakes setups. Construction is medium action across the board, appropriate for rod-tip sensitivity to board knockdowns and dodger action.

Five models, all casting (conventional), ranging 9'0" to 10'9". Powers span MH to XH; line ratings run 12–25 lb to 20–40 lb. The 9'0" MH at 12–25 lb handles lighter presentations and smaller boats. The 10'6" and 9'9" XH models at 20–40 lb and 4–16 oz lure weight cover heavy lead-core, large deep-diving spoons, and snap weights. Progression is logical, length and power increase in tandem.
