Spec 8
Soft-action 3.3m tenkara pole for oikawa and small freshwater fish; 8-piece, 50.4cm packed.
Spec 8 is a single tenkara rod model at 3.3m (10'10"), 8-piece, packing to 50.4cm. It is 100% carbon and weighs 62g. The action is a soft mid-to-tip flex (胴調子 / doh-choji), a departure from the fast-tip profile common in traditional tenkara rods. Tip diameter is 1.0mm.
The intended target species are oikawa (Japanese dace) and kawamutsu (false dace), small freshwater fish found in mid-reach rivers. The soft action prevents the rod from bouncing the hook on a light bite, keeping small fish pinned against the compliant tip during the fight. RGM positions the spec.8 as an accessible first tenkara rod: a single length, one action, one price point ($146.67 USD) removes most of the selection overhead for anglers trying the technique for the first time.
The spec.8 sits alongside the spec.3 OT in the RGM catalog as the second product oriented toward traditional Japanese small-fish methods. Both reflect the brand's interest in forms of fishing that require minimal gear and work in compact urban environments.
