Boat squid rods for ikametal and omorig, rated by sinker from 25号 to 60号
BattleWhip IM & OR covers the two sinker-rig boat squid methods in Yamaga Blanks' eging range. IM is ikametal, squid fishing with a metal sinker rig; OR is omorig, casting a sinker rig with a small egi, which reaches squid holding at the edge of the boat's lights. The BattleWhip renewal began in 2019, and its tip-run and ikametal rods were the first Yamaga Blanks models with carbon solid tips, replacing the glass solid tips of the earlier ikametal rods. Ratings are sinker weights in 号, from 25号 (90 g) to 60号 (225 g), on PE 0.4 to 1.
The four IM rods come in two lengths. The 2020 IM 69S and IM 69B are 6'9" rods whose soft tips show bites visually; the spinning model is rated to 25号 (90 g) and also handles light omorig to 20号, and the bait model to 30号 (110 g). The 2025 IM 511S and IM 511B are 5'11" rods with a stiffer, quicker blank for feeling bites in the hand: the 511S to 40号 (150 g) and the 511B to 50号 (185 g) for deep water and fast current.
The OR 72/C (2020) is a 7'2" spinning rod for casting 25 to 40号 sinkers underhand, and the OR 60B/C (2025) is a 6-foot bait omorig rod with a tubular tip, cast to 40号 underhand and fished vertically to 60号 (225 g), using the reel's counter to hold depth.
