Lupus for Native Trout
Native stream trout rods from the 5'1" 3-piece models to the 7'3" 73S, redesigned for 2026
Lupus for Native Trout is Yamaga Blanks' stream trout series, redesigned from the blank up for a February 2026 release, about ten years after the previous Lupus model change. Yamaga's aim was to keep the supple Lupus feel while adding the firmness and casting precision that current native trout fishing asks for, from headwaters to midstream sections and larger water.
The 51S/3pcs and 51B/3pcs are the first multi-piece Lupus rods: 5'1" three-piece spinning and baitcasting models that pack to 545 mm for hiking into headwaters and small mountain streams, both rated 2 to 7 g. The spinning version is tuned for heavy sinking minnows and low, pinpoint casts; the baitcasting version suits small minnows and wrist-flick casts in tight, overgrown creeks. The 61S is the all-rounder linking upstream and midstream water, rated 2 to 10 g, for floating minnows fished downstream and heavy sinking minnows upstream. The 73S, rated 3 to 14 g on PE 0.6 to 1, is the long rod for big rivers and lakes, holding a minnow in strong current and casting spoons a long way.
All four use 99.7 to 99.8 percent carbon, spigot ferrules, Fuji SiC-S titanium-frame K guides and an original wood reel seat. Japanese retail runs from ¥54,000 to ¥60,000 ex-tax.
