20 Protone
One-piece spinning jigging rods for aomono, jigs to 160, 180, 220 and 280 g on PE 3 to PE 5
Protone is Olympic's spinning jigging series for aomono such as buri (yellowtail) and hiramasa (yellowtail amberjack). The blanks are many plies of thin low- to mid-modulus, low-resin carbon, slim but thick-walled, with G-MAPS construction and Quattro Graphite Cross XX in the butt for torsional strength and recovery. Olympic states the tip follows the jig for easy control with little effort, while under load the rod bends slowly from the fore grip to take on large fish. All four are one-piece with a straight grip.
Each model is rated for short and long jigs. The 5'8" 58-2 (2021) handles 140 g short and 160 g long jigs and works jigs vertically with a deep bend and strong recovery. The 6'2" 62-3 (140/180) suits 100 g short and 120 g semi-long jigs to 70 m for mejiro (young buri) and sawara, and can lift buri with the drag locked. The 6'2" 62-4 (180/220) is for 150 g short to 200 g semi-long jigs worked vertically at deeper Sea of Japan grounds, with a faster tip for swimming retrieves such as the Tango jerk. The 5'9" 59-5 (200/280) is the power model for vertical and dotera (drift) jigging with semi-long jigs, including hiramasa.
Guides are stainless-frame, SiC Ocean (MNSG) guides at the butt and SiC-S K guides elsewhere, all double-foot on the 59-5. Reel seats are Fuji DPS18 (DPS20 on the 59-5) with double lock nuts, the fore grip is hard EVA and the grip end is a round rubber cork.
