23 Corto
Mid-range Corto ajing rods, 5'7" to 8', with titanium solid, hard solid and tubular tips
Corto is the mid-priced line of Olympic's Corto ajing family. The maker refers to it as the middle-end class of the Corto series and claims performance close to its high-end models. Blanks are slim high-modulus carbon with Lightweight Graphite Cross wrapped on the bias in the butt section for torsional strength; that cloth is being discontinued, so production is changing over to Graphite Cross LV. Joints are put-over ferrules and guides are titanium-frame SiC-S. Most models use the OP-01 carbon reel seat in a down-lock layout; the 592XUL-S has an IPS seat and the 6102L-HS and 802ML-HS a VSS seat.
The lineup is nine spinning rods from 5'7" to 8'. The 572UL-TS carries Olympic's patented titanium solid tip, a nickel-titanium tip joined to a carbon tubular blank, at 0.6 mm for jigheads under 1 g. The 572UL-HS, 592XUL-S and 622UL-HS are light-rig models for harbour lights and the plankton (ami) pattern, the 612L-HS is the attacking jighead rod Olympic recommends to beginners, and the 642L-HS and tubular-tip 642L-T are the all-round 6'4" models. The 6102L-HS fishes heavier jigheads, carolina and split-shot rigs in deeper water, and the 802ML-HS reaches far offshore with float and carolina rigs.
Lure ratings run from a maximum of 1.5 g on the 592XUL-S to 20 g on the 802ML-HS, and Japanese retail from ¥30,000 to ¥34,000 ex-tax.
Shaded band: the spread of the lineup's 9 models, as percentile rank among same-type rods. Solid line = series median · dashed ring = catalog median.
