20 Protone Prototype
Flagship one-piece slow jigging bait rods for jigs to 200 to 550 g, built at Susami
Protone Prototype is Olympic's flagship slow jigging series, made under its Susami factory brand. Every model uses Torayca T1100G and Super Quattro Graphite Cross LV over the full length, rolled as many plies of low-resin sheet on a slim mandrel, with G-MAPS construction in the butt. Olympic describes a blank that reads the jig's attitude and small changes in current, bends and recovers in step with the jig's weight, and turns stiff enough under a fish to allow a forceful fight, helped by blank-through construction. All six are one-piece bait rods with titanium-frame Torzite guides (single-foot K at the tip, LRV at the butt), a Fuji TDPS22 seat (TDPS20 on the 67-1) with a hard arbor inside, hard EVA grips and a small round grip end that stays clear of the jerk.
Each model is rated by best and maximum jig weight. The 67-1 (120 g best, 200 g max) is the tachiuo (hairtail) special, and the 67-2 (140/200) suits nearshore bottom fish and tachiuo. The 67-3 (160/280) is for 160 g leaf jigs to 200 g semi-long jigs in nearshore slow jigging. The 67-4 (180/350) is aimed at akamutsu (rosy seabass) and kinmedai in mid-deep water and at 300 g long jigs for tachiuo off Akashi and Kihoku. The 6'6" 66-5 (220/400) is the heavy all-rounder, and the 6'4" 64-6 (240/550) is the power model for kanpachi, tuna and large bottom fish in deep water.
