Compatto
Travel rods that pack to 55 cm or less, four 5-piece models and a telescopic
Compatto is Olympic's travel rod series. Every model packs to 55 cm or less, sized with international carry-on limits in mind, and comes with its own case; colors and grip design are kept plain so the rods suit any target. The four multi-piece models are 5-piece rods with spigot ferrules, titanium-frame SiC guides (KW and K guides on the bait model, KR-concept KL and K guides on the spinning models), EVA separate grips and down-locking TCS (bait) or IPS (spinning) reel seats. Olympic builds the blanks from thin, low-resin carbon prepreg rolled thick, on mandrel tapers redesigned so the joints do not show in the bend.
The 7' GCMC-705M is the only bait model and the most powerful, for bass and also rockfish such as akou and ainame and small pelagics (to 30 g on 8 to 20 lb). The 7' GCMS-705L is the lightest, to 10 g, for aji, mebaru, chinu, trout and bass; the 7'4" GCMS-745ML adds belly stiffness for casts to 20 g and light seabass work; and the 7'4" GCMS-745M takes 30 g for light shore jigging.
The GCMS-776L-TL, added in 2025, is the series' first telescopic model: 7'7" in six sections closing to 46.2 cm, with sliding guides on the top two sections, the OP-02 carbon reel seat and a fluorine-treated dimpled inner bore to shed water and reduce sticking.
Shaded band: the spread of the lineup's 5 models, as percentile rank among same-type rods. Solid line = series median · dashed ring = catalog median.
