The Phenix Black Diamond Surf is a two-piece surf casting and spinning series built for beach and jetty anglers made for red drum, striped bass, corvina, and similar inshore/surf species that require heavy sinker or lure loads thrown from the sand. The series extends from 9' up to 14', covering compact jetty fishing at one end and maximum-distance surf casting at the other. The blank is a 30/40-ton Toray composite layup, a common mid-premium surf construction that splits the difference between raw distance and tip sensitivity.

Fuji K-framed guides with Alconite inserts resist saltwater corrosion and reduce line friction under heavy loads. The Fuji reel seat is expandable to accommodate oversized conventional and spinning reels typical of the surf. Custom EVA handles and a two-piece 50/50 split make it manageable for transport. Build quality is sold as a step above production imports but below full-custom blanks. Lineup is split between spinning (nine models: SX-S prefix) and casting (two models: SX-C prefix).

Spinning spans 9'–14'; casting covers 11'–13'. Within each format, models step through progressively heavier power ratings as length increases. The 11' and 12' spinning and casting pairs share overlapping line and lure ranges, giving anglers a choice of reel type at the same reach. The 13' SX-S1309-2 and SX-C1309-2 represent the heavy end at 25–60lb / 6–12oz, suited to large chunk bait or heavy metal.

Shortest model in the lineup, doubles as a compact jetty or pier spinning stick where backcast room is limited. Still rated 1–3oz, so it handles moderate sinker rigs.

SX-C1309-2 Casting · 13' · XXH

Heaviest model in the series. Conventional reel format with the stiffest blank, suited to chunk bait or heavy metals where a locked-down drag and direct power transfer matters more than tip sensitivity.

SX-S1408-2 Spinning · 14' · XH

Longest model at 14', made for maximum casting distance from open beaches. Despite the reach, lure rating tops out at 10oz, keeping it in the standard surf range instead of heavy European-style distance casting.
