The Phenix Trifecta is a salmon and steelhead specialist rod series designed for drift fishing, plunking, side-drifting, and related presentation methods on Pacific Northwest rivers and coastal waters. Target species are Chinook, coho, sockeye, and steelhead, fish that require moderately powered rods capable of absorbing strong runs on relatively light line while maintaining sensitivity for subtle takes in current. The series addresses both casting (baitcaster) and spinning configurations in a range of lengths and line classes.

Blanks are constructed from 40-ton composite carbon fiber with Toray multi-scrim fiber layup, providing a blank that is described as sensitive without being brittle. Guide components are Essex SiC guides throughout; reel seats are Essex construction; handles are custom cork. The MF (Moderate-Fast) action designated across all casting models suits the requirements of salmon and steelhead fishing, where enough tip flex to absorb head shakes is needed but the blank must still generate leverage to turn strong fish. Lengths extend to 10' on select models for reach in larger rivers.

The 14-model lineup divides into 7 casting and 7 spinning models. Casting models span 8'–10'6" with two-piece construction indicated by "-2" suffixes. Power designations in the model numbers hint at the application, lighter models (905, 965) on 6–12 lb line for steelhead and smaller salmon; heavier models (907, 909) in 10–45 lb line for chinook and plunking. The 10' TRX-S1007-2 spinning rod rated 1–6 oz and 10–30 lb is positioned for larger rivers and heavier presentation methods.

Deeper Dive

A closer look at notable models.

TRX-S804 Spinning · 8' · ML

Lightest spinning model, 4–10 lb on an 8' blank for steelhead in smaller coastal streams and rivers where light leader is required to generate takes.

TRX-S905-2 Spinning · 9' · M

Mid-length spinning entry on light line for steelhead and smaller salmon. The 9' length provides reach for drift control without the bulk of the 10' model.

TRX-S1007-2 Spinning · 10' · H

Maximum reach spinning model for large rivers. Rated to 6 oz lure weight and 30 lb line, suited for heavy bobber rigs, heavy plugs, or large spoons on chinook water.

TRX-C 1068-2 Casting · H · MF action

Longest casting model at 10'6" in two pieces. Heavy line rating combined with maximum reach suits large river fishing from shore where distance and drift control matter.

TRX-C 909-2 Casting · XH · MF action

Heaviest line rating in the casting group at 20–45 lb. Purpose is large Chinook on heavy gear, plunking or side-drifting with heavier terminal rigs on big water.

TRX-C 806 Casting · M · MF action

Single-piece 8' casting entry on 8–17 lb line. The shorter length suits smaller coastal rivers and streams where lengthy two-piece rods reduce maneuverability.
