Ultra MBX

The Phenix Ultra MBX is a technique-specific bass rod series built on Toray T40 carbon fiber blanks interwoven with Phenix's Nanolite resin system. The series has been in production for multiple decades and is made for tournament and serious recreational bass anglers who run specific presentations, jig, drop-shot, finesse casting, and need a rod tuned to that purpose. The Ultra MBX has a reputation for running one power rating lighter than other brands' equivalents, which is relevant when selecting models.

It is positioned at the serious end of the freshwater bass market. Components include semi-micro Fuji MNSG SiC guides, a Phenix proprietary carbon fiber reel seat, and a cork-EVA hybrid handle with burl wood accents. The SiC rings offer low friction and smooth casting for finesse lines. The casting-heavy lineup reflects the technique emphasis on jig and power presentations. Spinning models in the lineup are all XF action, built for drop-shot and weightless presentations requiring maximum tip sensitivity.

The 18 models split 12 casting and 6 spinning. Casting lengths run 6'6" to 7'7" in L through XH power, with two XH models at 7' and 7'3" for heavy jig and punching applications. Spinning models are 6'6" to 7'6" in L through MH, all XF action. The 7'7" casting models are among the longest, suited for long-distance swimbait presentations. Power breadth in casting (L to XH) covers finesse through heavy mat punching within a single series.
