Ultra Swimbait Classic Casting Rods

The Ultra Swimbait Classic is Phenix Rods' dedicated big-bait platform, built on the company's Hybrid Technology Blank, a proprietary composite layup intended to balance sensitivity with the parabolic load absorption needed to throw and fight heavy swimbaits. The target angler is the western (primarily Southern California and western US) swimbait bass and striped bass fisherman working glide baits, hard-bodied swimbaits, and large paddle tails in the 2–8oz range.

Components are premium throughout: Fuji Alconite guides, Fuji ECS reel seat, and an exotic burl wood butt grip with combined cork and EVA. The moderate-fast (MF) action is consistent across all five models, this is the key specification for swimbait work, allowing the rod to load slowly enough to cast heavy lures without sacrificing hook-setting authority. Build quality reviews are generally positive; isolated QC issues (guide adhesive cracking) were reported but not widespread.

Five casting models run 7'9" to 8'8", all moderate-fast action. The two 7'11" models (MH and ML) offer a power split for different bait weights in the same blank length. The 8'8" model is the longest-reach option for maximum casting distance with heavy presentations.
